#438 – 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:2
My faith walk has been touched by all that your podcast has covered. When I first found you, you were going through the Small Catechism which I was taught in junior confirmation. Then the whole Augsburg confession, which I had heard of but had not ever read it or studied. And now, in the vernacular of the info-mercial ” wait there’s more!”, you invoke Les Miserable! A book, musical, movie, and movie musical, that inspires me greatly. You sky podcasters, you!! In all seriousness, my faith walk has led me back to the Lutheran Church of my upbringing, but now, in my sixties, I see with much more clarity, that it is really back to the Gospel. It’s not all about me, but Christ in me. To bring the point home in a personal context, I offer this: My wife, in hopes that I am able to contribute to our marriage, requests of me to fix broken things around the house. There is a battered, well worn copy of Readers Digest How things work in the home (or something like that) that helped my in that task (pre-internet). And now there’s Youtube. But despite all the exhaustive efforts of these two references, my abilities/luck is lacking. Nothing goes back together as simply as they say. Something is always different from how they describe it. Case in point: doing repairs on the air conditioner on our rv. It had been leaking in rainstorms. All indicators suggest the gasket between the unit and the rv roof had failed. So the go-to resource of the modern world (Amazon) offered immediately the “universal” 14 inch replacement gasket. “UNIVERSAL”. With my pre-conditioned mindset thanks to my seemingly consistent luck (and/or lack there of), I decided to measure the current gasket. 17 inches!! So yeah, it is like God seems determined to teach me the Gospel in practical terms. No matter what resources, references, or inspirations I may contribute, it is all for naught. Ultimately my salvation is through Christ crucified, and nothing I bring is of any use in that. I am but given the privilege of participating in the work of Christ.
