  1. Guys,

Thank you for another great episode. We Presbyterians do encourage private confession “one to another”. However, we do not have a formal process with the templates that you have at your disposal.

We do have public confession of sins in our liturgy which, as I like to put it, is one of three high points in our service, the other two being the sermon and communion. In each of those high point the Gospel is offered and sins are forgiven.

It seems as if Jason and I have had similar experiences growing up in the Church with regard to asking for forgiveness in order to avoid punishment. Although that is still an aspect of my motivation the predominate aspect of my motivation now is the restoration of my relationship with God.

BTW, I absolutely LOVE your jailer analogy as to what the pastor is doing when he declares that our sins are forgiven. Your quote “the jailer with the key opens the door and says ‘you have been pardoned’ and it is a good as the word of the king” just blew me away. I love it.

Thank you for your ministry through the means of this podcast and keep up the good work.

    Your brother in Christ,

    JT

    1. JT,

Thank you again for your kind works. I can’t take credit for the jailer analogy. I stole it from Pr. Bryan Wolfmueller, another Lutheran who has a couple of podcasts and YouTube channel I’d highly recommend. I’ve learned quite a bit from him.
